Weather news highlights: An intense heat wave has gripped north India, with Delhi, the national capital, being under a ‘red’ alert for Tuesday. A day ago, temperatures in the metropolis soared to 45.2 degree Celsius as the brutal heat wave gripped the entire region. The ongoing severe water crisis also continues in Delhi. The ruling AAP has come under fire from the opposition parties: the BJP and Congress.
Also, in addition to the Capital, many parts of Uttar Pradesh are expected to witness heatwave to severe heatwave conditions till June 19. Himachal Pradesh and Bihar are also expected to witness similar conditions till June 18.
Meanwhile, in the country’s southern part, Chennai and nearby areas witnessed overnight rains, which brought respite to the city from sweltering heat.

Weather Today Live: Crippling heatwave continues in Rajasthan as Sangaria recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 44.9 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, the meteorological centre here said, reported news agency PTI.
While light rain was recorded in parts of eastern Rajasthan in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am today, the weather remained dry in the western region, it said.
During this time, severe heatwave was recorded at some places in Bikaner and Jaipur divisions while some parts of Jaipur, Kota, Jodhpur, Ajmer and Bikaner divisions witnessed warm nights, it said.

Weather Today Live: Hospitals in Delhi-NCR are seeing an influx of patients with complaints of heat stroke and heat exhaustion as the mercury continues to soar in the national capital, with doctors advising the elderly and immuno-compromised patients to avoid stepping outdoors, reported news agency PTI.
Dr Ritu Saxena, deputy medical superintendent, LNJP Hospital, said, "We are getting eight to 10 patients every day. There are serious patients also who require ICU admission. Yesterday, we got two patients who were hospitalised and prior to that we had four ICU admissions.
"The patients who are developing severe illness are those who are elderly or have co-morbidities like hypertension, diabetes and Coronary Artery Disease (CAD). We are also getting few patients from other hospitals like Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital and Satyawadi Raja Harish Chandra Hospital," she said.

Weather Today Live: Incessant rainfall in Meghalaya over the last few days has claimed two lives and affected over 3,000 people, Meghalaya State Disaster Management Authority (MSDMA) said on Tuesday, reported news agency PTI.
The officials said over 3,037 people across 42 villages in six districts have been affected following continuous rainfall since June 10.

Weather Today Live: India Meteorological Department on Tuesday said that there is a possibility of light rain in the National Capital in the next three to four days amidst challenging weather conditions across the country, reported news agency ANI.
IMD scientist Soma Sen told ANI, "Red alert has been issued in North India. North-West Himalayan region of India including Punjab and Haryana will experience cloudy weather from evening and rain is also expected...The heatwave situation is likely to reduce in Punjab and Haryana...From tomorrow, Orange alert will be issued in Delhi..."
"There is a possibility of rain in Delhi which is called pre-monsoon showers due to southwesterly winds in the next three or four days. Heat waves can be reduced. The discomfort which you are feeling indicates that moisture is increasing in your area," Sen added.
