Morris died Monday March 26 1990 at the Brookridge Retirement Community in Winston-Salem NC Dr Morris the son of the late Docia and Morris was born August 29 1889 near Stanley NC Dr Morris was a graduate of Wake Forest College and the Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville KY He pas-tored three North Carolina churches: The First Baptist Church of Asheboro NC (1924-1927) The Western Avenue Baptist Church Statesville NC (1927-1935) and the Creystone Baptist Church in Durham NC (1936 until his retirement in 1956) He served as Interim Pastor to 25 Charlotte area churches after his retirement in addition to being Dean and Teacher of New Testament at the Fruitland Baptist Institute (1957-1962) and Teacher of Bible at Gardner-Webb College in the late Dr Morris was active in North Carolina and Southern Baptist Circles having served as Vice President of the Baptist State Convention President of the General Board Chairman of the Evangelistic Association Founder and President of the Council of Churches of Durham and vicinity and Trustee of Wake Forest College Dr Morris had been a resident of the Baptist Retirement Homes of Inc first at their home in Asheville and since 1987 at the Hayes Home newly named the Brookridge Retirement Community in Winston-Salem NC Dr Morris was married to the former Connie Abernathy who died in 1973 Dr Morris is survived by four daughters Mrs Frances Spurrier of Charlotte NC Mrs Virginia Clegg of Winston-Salem NC Mrs Margaret Parker of Panama City FL and Mrs Barbara Cloaninger of Lake Wylie SC eight grandchildren 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild The family requests that memorials be sent to the Baptist Retirement Homes of Inc Box 11024 Winston-Salem NC 27116-1024 or the Academy for Christian Study Gardner-Webb
