9-16-16 UPDATE
Dear parent and student,
Fourth grade does not require spelling homework. The students usually only have their daily reading homework and a small writing piece for accountability. This is usually all that they have besides studying spelling and vocabulary words. We try to keep homework at a minimum. All we require are for the students to study the spelling words. As a class, we teach the phonics pattern and review the spelling words. It is their job to study the words at home. Some students haven’t been studying at home as evident from their spelling test grades. So effective immediately, the students who earn a 79% or less on their spelling tests will also be responsible for spelling homework for the following week. This is to ensure that the cycle of below expectations performance does not continue each week. If the student earns an 80% or better, they will continue having NO spelling homework. It will only be the required reading and small writing assignment about their nightly reading. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
