On the victory:
“Three points, and it's been a good run we're on. We just want to keep it going. It’s been nice that everybody is involved. Our subs have come on and done a good job. In previous games, we had some guys that haven't had a lot of minutes that came on and did a great job. So, we just want to keep this thing rolling. Columbus is a very good team. I don't know if we saw the best punch today for many reasons, but overall, they pose a lot of problems for you, on how to go about defending them. It was a very collective effort from the group. They understood how difficult it would be to break them down and pick them off and defend. They took that challenge. I thought we played some great stuff. We created 11 shots down the stretch. We started to bend a little and they brought in some good players, and you could see their quality. So, we tried to counter that with some more defensive effort, but overall, a good match for us”.
On Corey Baird:
“Corey (Baird) early in the year was playing that position, playing up high for us in a similar way. Getting those chances and moving, connecting the game, and really helping us out defensively on how to shake the game. He's got a high IQ for that, but he wasn’t scoring. So, we moved him into a few different spots. He ended up getting hot, maybe a month or two ago and starting to chip in some goals. (Aliyu) Ibrahim struggled to get goals and we decided to move Corey back up there for a little bit. He's been hot. He's got a good connection with a lot of players. His ability to control service and how many balls are popping over the defense and he's getting a touch. He's got a nice exhale about him in front of the goal and the net is big for him right now. It's nice.”
On Steve Clark:
“Really good year so far from Steve (Clark) and he's a leader too, he’s been very helpful in the locker room. He makes big saves but also, he controls the game’s force. He’s a feeder, one of the better goalkeepers in the league in connecting and helping us build. While also keeping teams on their heels when he has the ball. So, all around, he’s been very good.”

“Right now, I would say the result we got against Portland at home was a real indicator of who we can be as an entire team. I would say that most recently. But I would say every single win continues to grow the chemistry around the group and the squad.”

Sobre el buen momento del equipo y las cuatro victorias al hilo en todas las competencias:
“Lo dije en los partidos pasados, que habíamos sido más contundentes. En los partidos empatados y los que perdimos no habíamos tenido esta contundencia. Contra rivales fuertes como el de hoy hay que ser contundentes. También hemos mejorado muchísimo defensivamente. Hemos aprendido a sufrir juntos, lo cual también es importante. En esos momentos nos unimos muy bien y luego los agarramos en contragolpe. Columbus es un equipo que ataca muy bien, pero deja mucho espacio atrás. Así conseguimos el segundo gol”.
Sobre el regreso a la selección mexicana:
“Estoy contento por regresar a la selección, como lo estaría cualquier jugador. Es como si fuera la primera vez. Es muy bonito. Es un orgullo vestir la playera de la selección nacional. Estoy ilusionado de poder disfrutar ese momento, poder ayudar en el papel que me toque. Hay que disfrutarlo”.
Sobre si regresar a la selección nacional jugando en la MLS tiene un significado especial:
“Han sido muy pocos los que han sido convocados jugando en la MLS. Creo que el torneo Leagues Cup ayudó mucho para mostrar el crecimiento de la MLS, que está al nivel de la liga mexicana y que quienes jugamos aquí podemos jugar en una liga de cualquier nivel. Por ejemplo, el mejor jugador de la Concacaf, defiende a Panamá y es mi compañero aquí, Adalberto “Coco” Carrasquilla. Estoy para competir, no soy el mejor, no me interesa ser el mejor, pero si tener un lugar en la selección. Jugadores que actúan en Canadá están al mismo nivel de los que juegan México. Estoy contento por el llamado, me pondré a las órdenes del técnico y veremos qué pasa”.
Sobre sobre la posibilidad de jugar en el Mundial 2026:
“Siempre me veo en todos los Mundiales. La realidad es que no falta mucho, tres años pasan volando. Todo dependerá de cómo esté físicamente, de cómo me vaya adaptando. Estoy atravesando una fase bonita de mi carrera, estoy disfrutando muchísimo, estoy feliz todos los días. Quiero mantener esa felicidad diaria, esa felicidad por jugar fútbol. Si jugar en la selección me da esa felicidad seguiré adelante, si veo que no es lo que me hace feliz yo mismo me haré a un lado. A lo mejor encontré tarde esta felicidad, pero ahora mismo la estoy disfrutando”.
Sobre el cambio en la percepción de lo que es la MLS:
“Eso pasaba hace mucho años, que los jugadores venían a la MLS a terminar su carrera, para extenderla, disfrutar del futbol. Hoy la competencia es a un nivel alto y que eso de venir ya en el ocaso de la carrera no ocurre a menudo aquí, la MLS se ha convertido en una liga muy competitiva, con mucho crecimiento. La Leagues Cup fue una gran vitrina para la MLS. La Liga está creciendo, los semifinalistas fueron equipos estadounidenses, Está creciendo mucho la MLS. Es cierto que jugamos todo el torneo aquí en USA, creo que si vamos a jugar a México allí también podríamos ganar aunque ellos tendrían el factor de la localidad. A mí me gustó mucho el torneo. Espero que se repita, y que los organizadores tomen en cuenta el buen nivel mostrado para armar nuevos campeonatos”.
