Graduate Catalog Changes (2024)

The UNLV Graduate Catalog provides important information to the entire UNLV campus community pertaining to graduate level programs and resources including:

  • Degree and certificate program requirements
  • Course descriptions
  • Academic policies
  • Tuition and fees
  • Campus resources
  • And more!

The UNLV Graduate College should be considered a resource for colleges, schools, and departments. If you have questions about the catalog update process please contact Ashley Weckesser at 702-895-1200 orashley.weckesser@unlv.eduto discuss how to:

Did you know the Catalog is an Official Record [1]?

It is expected that all of our graduate students (non-degree seeking, degree seeking, and certificate seeking) refer to the Graduate Catalog as the primary source of information for program requirements[2]. As the official record, changes cannot be made to the current catalog after it has been published and housed online[3]. However, any changes should be submitted as soon as possible to ensure that they are included in the next catalog.

Does your department house degree requirements including, but not limited to, degree completion worksheets on your department's website?

Rather than posting any program information to your department website, we encourage you to link to the current Graduate Catalog. Any information that is presented that is inconsistent with the catalog will not be recognized and it is critical that your catalog page is updated as this is the official record of program requirements [4].

FAQ's

Why can't I make updates to the Catalog after it has been published online? Isn't it on a website that should be easy to update?
  • Although the Catalog is no longer available in print once it is made public it is considered a static, published document for the academic year.
  • Although it is housed online, it is not the same as a standard website (e.g. a department or faculty page). It is a binding document for the students admitted under that catalog regarding program plan descriptions, plan admission requirements, plan requirements, plan completion requirements, and plan graduation requirements. Therefore, changes cannot be made.
  • A version of the catalog must be sent to the state. The Commission on Postsecondary Education reviews programs to make sure we meet standards and criteria for students to be approved to use their VA education benefits.
My program updates were approved by the Graduate College New Programs & Program Revisions Committee but the program does not look like it has been updated. How do I fix this?
  • Approved changes are made in an unpublished version of the Catalog, therefore, you will not be able to view these changes online.
  • A PDF reflecting the changes made to the program will be sent to the contact on the Change Request Form. If you need to request the PDF reflecting changes made, please email GCProjects@unlv.edu. After you have reviewed the change document, if it is discovered that there were changes already approved by the Graduate College New Programs & Program Revisions Committee that are not reflected in the PDF, please email GCProjects@unlv.edu and we will be happy to review the additional changes.
  • Emailed requests for additional changes to the catalog cannot be honored, please submit change requests through theGraduate College Curriculum Change Portal.
  • Please note that approved changes are typically made within 2 to 4 weeks. You are welcome to follow up on the progress of the changes by emailing GCProjects@unlv.edu.
  • We strongly recommend that every department/unit keep track of changes requested and approved by the committee.
I only want to change a few words and I do not feel that they are substantial. Why do I have to go through the Graduate College New Programs & Program Revisions Committee?

This is required to ensure that all changes follow procedure and to create a record of approved changes.
