Food vouchers - departure city only?
Alaska very generously gave us some food vouchers because of a flight delay. I just finished lunch before receiving them, so I'm wondering if they'd work in SEA when I land (destination city)?

I got a voucher at BOI on a diversion and used it at PHL after getting off the replacement jet

Thanks for the response! Dinner on Alaska! Is this typical of them (vouchers for delays)? With AA your gift was the delay not cascading!

Luckily I have only suffered minimal delays due to scheduling/weather/maintenance issues and I have found them to be generous with them; had a mechanical a few weeks ago and after 4 hours a voucher appeared on my e-mail. Others on this board however, will have had different experiences.

The vouchers are really a Mastercard number that needs to be manually keyed. I doubt the system is sophisticated enough to know location anyway. Sometimes finding a vendor that will key them manually is a hassle since they look cross eyed and no one knows how to do anything manually anymore.
Alaska won't accept the vouchers on board for food purchases, and each time this just pisses customers off since the vouchers themselves do not actually say that. (technology wise I'd believe the MC could be manually keyed and would work, but they "are not for this purpose" Alaska always says.)

The meal voucher came to my e-mail by Travelliance with a bar code (linked to a MasterCard account). The cafe I went too scanned...no problem. I guess if they could not scan, they would have to enter the code manually. Again, no hassle for me

ANC RED-EYE has shared with me more, but apparently they can be used off airport even, and at least a day later. What is the timeline on such vouchers? I've only had a couple during my travels with AS. And I forgot you could use it at a different airport as well- got some in PSC a few months back and used them there... should have saved some, but was good to eat dinner @ airport as well. Just not valid on adult beverages.
jackal has also used a technique buying gift cards IIRC for places like starbucks...

It might be off topic from the original thread, but the voucher I received was good only on the day of issue, even though it was attached to a MasterCard acct that had an expiration of 2022. Again, my experience as of two weeks ago. I am pretty sure I could have used it anywhere that day; departure city, arrival city..whatever but only for that day.

So an interesting follow-up. As posted Monday, I had planned on using mine on arrival, but the delay lengthened to the point where if I stayed even 5 minutes at SEA to get food I would have missed the cutoff for my dog kennel pickup. I got home from the kennel slightly annoyed I had not taken advantage of the credit (landing at 8pm instead of 5pm), so with nothing to lose I added the MC# into my Starbucks account and initiated a $10 reload.... And it worked

Slight necropost, however this came up in the Bing results for what/how to use Alaska meal vouchers and I wanted to confirm this as a valid technique. I used one this morning in the Starbucks app and my spouse just did five (has 9 vouchers). After the fifth, it has quit letting her (says invalid CVC). But it does work.

Do they work anywhere Mastercard is accepted or does it have to code as "restaurant"? Can you use them to reload/buy an amazon GC?

one hiccup is that Sbux apparently only lets you load in $10 increments ... so my pair of $12 vouchers resulted in a pair of $10 uploads to my wife's card
