Eggnog Truffles Recipe (1)

I’m not sure why I love egg nog so much, but I really look forward to it all year long.

Maybe it’s because they make you wait all year to have it.

The other day I went to a potluck Christmas party, and my friend brought these truffles.

They are like big, tasty glass of eggnog with every bite. I begged her for the recipe, and she finally let me have it – and she told me I could share it with you.

Trust me when I say, I can’t make homemade candy for the life of me, because I really can’t.

However, with this recipe, I feel like I could make chocolates for a living because they always turn out perfect.

If you are looking for a delicious and simple holiday treat, you have to try these.

The trick to dipping chocolates and truffles

Dipping chocolates has always been a struggle for me. I feel like I always mess them up, or can’t get the chocolate to look right.

However, we have figured out the best way to dip chocolate, or in this case, egg nog truffles.

All you need is a plastic four prong fork.

Simply break the two middle prongs, so you only have the outside prongs intact. Then place the egg nog truffle into the white chocolate (I just use my hands) roll it around and make sure it is fully coated.

Then, using the two prong fork, lift the egg nog truffle, out of the chocolate, and place it on foil, or prepared baking sheet or pan.

That’s all there is to it.

If it is showing any of the truffle insides, smooth the chocolate over it gently, by sliding the side of the fork prong along it.

Bam. Perfect truffles every time.

How should i store these truffles?

If you are making them in advance, we recommend placing them in an air tight container, and refrigerating them until serving them.

I prefer them cold, but they are also delicious at room temperature.

They also freeze very well.

Depending on how far in advance you are making them, pull them out of the freezer 24 hours in advance, and place them in the fridge to thaw.

If you take them out of the freezer, then put them on the counter, they will get wet, and lose their crisp chocolate texture.

  2. Blair @ The Seasoned Mom says:

I'm loving everything eggnog right now, and these truffles look amazing! I love the short, simple list of ingredients, too. Pinned!

  3. Kristin says:

Instead of rum extract can I use real rum????

  4. kate says:

Could you use white almond bark or wouldn't that give the same result ?

  5. Cyd says:

Hi Kate, white almond bark will work just fine with these eggnog truffles.

  6. Tina says:

We are having problems rolling ours into balls. Our eggnog mixture is very gooey and sticky. Any advice?

  7. Pam @ The Birch Cottage says:

Tis the season for eggnog. So far, I've made eggnog muffins, eggnog cupcakes and eggnog cookies. Oh, yeah, and let's not forget eggnog frosting! Now I can add eggnog truffles to my list! Thanks for sharing this recipe!

  8. marie says:

Do u have to use rum extract

  9. Cyd says:

It just add to the overall flavor, but they will be fine without it.

  10. Harry says:

Yes try putting the mixture into the frig for 10-15mins than get it out and roll it into balls that should prevent the gooey problem. These were delicious and very tasty I love eggnog.

  11. Jenal Carlton says:

So have you doubled, tripled or quadrupled the recipe? I'm looking for a recipe for a cookie exchange and will need to make more than 12 cookies.

  12. Cyd says:

You could totally double or triple this recipe.

  13. Chivon says:

I'm having difficulties rolling these into balls as well. Very sticky. I've had them in the fridge for 4 or 5 hours now because I found 2 wasn't enough and they're still very sticky. I'm now trying to freeze the mixture to see if that helps but I think the measurements may need to be tweaked for next time.

  14. Mrs. Kelly says:

Do these need to be stored in the fridge once they are done? I would like to gift them, but that can be a challenge for items that require refrigeration.

  15. Cyd says:

I would keep them in the fridge. But if you pull them out to deliver to neighbors or for a party, they should be fine at room temp for a few hours.

  16. Diana says:

How can they be eggnog truffles without eggnog

  17. Cyd says:

It's the nutmeg and other flavors that taste like egg nog in this recipe.

  18. Mellissa Brown-Upton says:

Too gooey & will not firm up!! What do I do??? Catering a party in two days for my boss!!! Help!

  19. Cyd says:

Add a little more powdered sugar if you are having a hard time rolling them into balls. Refrigerate them for storing and that will help them set up too. Hope it all comes together for you!!

Eggnog Truffles Recipe (2024)

FAQs

How do you prepare truffles? ›

Typically, truffles are thinly shaved on top of a cooked meal but if you grate them on a Microplane instead, the fine shavings incorporate better with the dish. Truffles are commonly used in pasta dishes, risotto, sauces, or grated over seafood or meat.

How to use whole truffles? ›

Grate truffles into wine or cream-based sauces, or shave them onto cooked pasta, scrambled eggs, or potato dishes. Or try our Black Truffle Ice Cream recipe, which is excellent for using black winter truffles in the summer, and makes an elegant finish to a special dinner.

What is the best mixer for eggnog? ›

While brandy is the most traditional alcohol to pair with eggnog, according to traditional recipes, you can also use a mixture of dark rum and Cognac. If you like your eggnog with more of a kick you can also add bourbon, but we recommend sticking to rum and Cognac to preserve the 'nog's flavors.

What type of rum to put in eggnog? ›

Avoid white rum because it's too light and transparent. Instead, choose a gold or aged rum. For a fun twist similar to rye whiskey, go with spiced rum. For the best of both classics, pour both brandy and rum, splitting them equally in the eggnog.

How is truffle made? ›

Truffles are a fungus that grows underground at or near the base of trees known as host trees, but not all trees are suitable places for truffles to grow. Typically host trees include poplar, beech, and oak trees. Truffle fungi grow worldwide in many different varieties.

Do I have to cook truffle? ›

For this reason, it's rare to actually cook truffles. Instead, it's typical to shave them thinly over the top of hot, cooked food before serving, letting the warmth of the food activate the flavors and aromas. This is especially true of white truffles.

Why is truffle so expensive? ›

The reason behind such high costs is the scarcity of the produce, truffles are seasonal, extremely difficult to grow, and take many years to cultivate. They also have a short shelf life. Truffles require a very specific climate to grow and require lots of oak trees, that's why they're often found in woodland.

Are truffles good for you? ›

Truffles contain a lot of important vitamins and minerals for our bodies such as vitamin C, calcium, magnesium and iron. They are also high in protein and fibre. In fact, studies have found that truffles may even be a complete source of protein, providing you with all the nourishment you need.

How much alcohol does eggnog have? ›

A concentration of at least 20% of alcohol (about the same amounts of alcoholic spirits and milk or cream), and refrigeration are recommended for safety.

What's the best whiskey to put in eggnog? ›

Made with eggs, sugar, spices, and of course, whiskey, this rich and creamy beverage is sure to get you in the holiday spirit. To make Wigle's spiked eggnog, we recommend using a good quality whiskey like Yule Tidings but other whiskeys will be equally delicious. Wigle PA Bourbon eggnog is also highly recommended!

Can you put Bacardi in eggnog? ›

As synonymous with the holiday season as Mariah Carey, BACARDÍ Eggnog is Christmas in a cup – or in a glass in this case. Made with BACARDÍ Spiced rum it's just like melted ice cream; smooth, creamy and sweet but with a gentle kick of nutmeg spice.

What alcoholic spirit is traditionally used to make eggnog? ›

The recipe can vary depending on who's making it, but the basic formula consists of eggs, sugar, milk and cream, plus a spirit. For the latter, most people turn to bourbon, rum or brandy, and some even elect to combine a couple spirits for oomph.

Do you cook truffles or eat them raw? ›

Truffles should be eaten at the peak of ripeness (unripe truffles are not so flavourful). Black truffles are peeled and can be used raw or lightly cooked, while white truffles are just carefully wiped and cleaned and should never be cooked.

What does a truffle taste like to eat? ›

Truffles are known for their earthy, umami-rich flavor and heady, musky aroma. Their flavor is sometimes compared to mushrooms, although truffles are more intense and complex in taste and far more fragrant. The exact profile varies by variety, season and quality, incorporating nutty, garlicky or floral notes.

Can you eat truffles by themselves? ›

To eat truffles by themselves, you can simply slice them thinly and enjoy them as is, or you can shave them over a dish to enhance its flavor. Some people also like to sprinkle truffle salt or truffle oil over their food for an added burst of truffle flavor.

Do you have to peel truffles? ›

Peel black truffles, saving the peel to flavor other dishes or to infuse olive oil, but use white truffles unpeeled. Grate truffles on a grater, or cut them into paper-thin slices, or shavings, with a vegetable peeler, a mandoline or a tool called a truffle slicer.
